The council inspector came yesterday........luckily he didn't give us too much grief! There were only a few minor things we needed to do before he will issue an occupation certificate. First we have to ensure that the two glass sliding doors are screwed shut until such time as the verandas and railings are finished AND prvide a written letter to state that we will leave it that way! PLUS put something accross the railing on the end of breezeway because he said the spaces are bigger than regulations!
PLUS I had to get a letter from the plumber stating that all tapware, toilets and shower heads are 3* and above rating.
Finally moving day arrives! Mum & I start carting first thing in the morning.....mum then stayed in the kitchen unpacking as I fetched stuff over. By lunch time most of the kitchen stuff was organised and then after lunch Klaus & Brendan came over and we carted and carted and carted.....
Mum has lots of unpacking to do in her new kitchen! By the time Stephen came home from work, everything except the fridge was in place!
Dad is supervising!
We decided to speed things up a bit and so we got Rob to do the decking for us. He and Al started on Wednesday.....Stephen helped too.....so they were finished in a couple of days! Stephen added the railing barrier accross the veranda because the council inspector won't allow occupation with the veranda being so high and no safety railings in place yet.
Yesterday the shower screens were installed and the plumbing finished off.....the building inspector is coming on Monday to give the OK (we hope!) to move in!
The tiler came on Friday as planned BUT because the building inspector was to come that afternoon and wanted to see the bathrooms sealed BEFORE and cement beds are laid, the tiler didn't want to do anything, despite Rob just saying "Bugger the inspector, Do it anyway"! LOL.... so he just got things ready for putting down some cement beds on Saturday, which he did.
He came and put the cement down in the two bathrooms and toilet BUT not the laundry on Saturday. He came yesterday and tiled mums bathroom BUT couldn't do anymore as he only had one bag of glue....the building supply shop was out of it....so he came back today and tiled the toilet and our bathroom.....and also laid the cement in the laundry and did the grouting in mums bathroom.
Over the weekend Stephen and I painted ceilings until we could hardly MOVE! We painted again yesterday afternoon!
The electrician came a day early and started putting the lights in wherever we had finished the 3 coats of paint. That was everywhere except the cupboards and wet areas so at least the main living areas are done now.
The plasterer comes this week and does some finishing and putting cornices up so it all starts to look a lot better now! The skirtings are on and the doors and door handles are now all in place. Yay! Rob and Al came for the last time today....they have done all they can for the moment so packed up all their gear and left! It felt really strange when they were gone....deserted somehow! No more hammering and banging etc.....They will only have to come back to do a few last minute jobs like putting up the towel rails and grab rails etc. Now we are waiting on the tiler who is supposed to make a start on Friday.
Stephen doesn't work today so makes a start on the painting. Rob wants all the ceilings done by next Wednesday when the electrician is supposed to come and install all the lights! All the ceilings painted?? 3 coats?? He has got to be kidding me! LOLLL
My name is Christine and I am addicted to bag making!
